THIS WEEK FOR THE HAWKEYES
The University of Iowa women’s tennis team hosts Eastern Michigan and Marquette this weekend at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Eastern Michigan visits Friday at 2:30 and Marquette visits Sunday at 12. Admission is free to the public.

QUOTING @COACHKDOUGH
“The team has had a great week of prep leading up to Eastern Michigan and Marquette. We competed well last weekend and we’re looking to build on that momentum coming into Friday.”

TAKING ON THE EAGLES
The last time the Iowa women’s tennis team has faced Eastern Michigan was during head coach Katie Dougherty‘s first season with the Hawkeyes. Iowa defeated the Eagles, 6-1. The 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons were the last two times Iowa has matched up Marquette, both times Iowa took down Marqutte, winning 5-2 and 6-1.

COMING OFF A DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP
Iowa knocked off Missouri State this past weekend, winning both matches of the double-header. The Bears fell to Iowa, 6-1, in morning match and, 4-0, in afternoon match. The Hawks have won every season opener since the 2010-11 season.

EARLY COURT TIME
All 10 Hawkeyes saw the court in the season opening weekend, including four freshmen. Thoms was 2-0, Huckleby was 1-0, Tamblyn was leading 2-1 in second set before the match was abandoned, and Runefelt won an exhibition.

FRESHMEN OFF TO IMPRESSIVE START
The freshmen squad put together a performance on Saturday that will set the tone for the rest of the season. Notables Adorabol Huckleby and Kristen Thoms are both 1-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles after being paired together during the home opener.

FINDING A NEW PARTNER
Zoe Douglas was teamed with Anastasia Reimchen for the first time in their careers. The sophomore’s debut was abandoned with a 4-3 lead, but they returned in the second match to win 6-3 at No. 1. Annette Dohanics, the lone senior, with no previous doubles experience with any of her teammates, made her 2016 debut with freshman Kristen Thoms. They won 6-0 at No. 1 doubles spot.
