Women’s Tennis Releases 2016-17 Schedule

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa Women’s tennis team released its 2016-17 schedule Thursday. The Hawkeyes play four tournaments in the fall and 13 home matches in the spring.

The Hawkeyes begin the fall season Sept. 22 at the Gopher Invite in Minneapolis. Iowa travels to Evansville Illinois on Sept. 30 for the Wildcat Invite, and returns to Minneapolis on Oct. 13 to compete at the ITA Central Regionals. The Hawkeyes conclude the fall season in Raleigh Durham, North Carolina, where they will compete in the Kitty Harrison Invite on Nov. 3-5.           

Iowa begins its spring season on Friday, Jan. 13 at the UCF Quad Tournament in Orlando, Florida. The Hawkeyes then host four home matches at the Hawkeyes Tennis and Recreation Complex. During the home stand the Hawkeyes face Creighton (Jan. 21), Northern Illinois (Jan. 28), Montana (Feb. 3), and Iowa State (Feb. 5).

In the month of March, six of the eight matches are against conference opponents. Iowa’s first conference match is against Maryland on March 4 in College Park, Maryland. The Hawkeyes return home to face Indiana and UW-Green Bay in a double header on March 11. A spring break match at Florida International on March 18 breaks up the conference schedule. The month concludes with trips to Wisconsin (March 24) and Minnesota (March 26), and a home match against Illinois on March 30. ­

The Hawkeyes face three 2016 NCAA Tournament qualifiers in April. Iowa hosts Northwestern on April 2 and Ohio State on April 7. The Buckeyes advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Following a match against Penn State on April 9, the Hawkeyes travel to Ann Arbor to face the 2016 Big Ten Tournament champion Wolverines on April 15. Iowa will conclude its spring regular season on April 22 against Nebraska in Iowa City. 

The Big Ten Championships begin April 26 and conclude April 30 in Champaign, Illinois. The NCAA Regionals are May 12-14, and the NCAA Championships begin May 18 in Athens, Georgia.
