Iowa Earns No. 5 Seed for 2017 Big Ten Tournament

ROSEMONT, Ill. — The University of Iowa baseball team will be the No. 5 seed at the 2017 Big Ten Tournament, where it will face fourth-seeded Maryland at 7:30 p.m. (CT) Wednesday at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington, Indiana.
 
37798The Hawkeyes won their final four Big Ten series to finish in a tie for fourth place with a 15-9 record.  Iowa is 34-19 overall; Maryland is 15-9 and 33-19 overall.  The two teams did not meet during the regular season.
 
Iowa is making its 12th all-time tournament appearance.  Last season the Hawkeyes advanced to the Big Ten Tournament title game, falling one game short of a title for a third time. Iowa is 12-21 all-time in tournament play.
 
No. 6 seed Indiana will be a part of the tournament opener on its home field, hosting third-seeded Minnesota at 9 a.m.; No. 2 seed Michigan will face off against seventh-seeded Northwestern at 12:30 p.m., and regular season champion and top-seeded Nebraska will square off against eighth-seeded Purdue at 4 p.m.
 
The eight-team double elimination tournament begins with four contests Wednesday and continues through Sunday’s championship game.  The tournament champion will earn the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
