IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa baseball team will be the boys of summer in late July and early August, hosting three games at Duane Banks Field in preparation for the 2017 World University Games.
Iowa will compete as the USA National Team from Aug. 19-30 in Taipei, Taiwan. The Hawkeyes will also serve as the USA National Team at the National Baseball Congress World Series from July 29-Aug. 6 in Wichita, Kansas.
The Hawkeyes’ first summer game at Banks Field will be a matchup against Iowa Valley League All-Stars on July 25. The IVL All-Stars will be coached by Jim Van Scoyoc — the legendary coach from Norway High School, who led the school to 12 Iowa state championships from 1972-90. He was the subject of the 2007 movie “The Final Season.”
The Hawkeyes will also host Iowa Valley League team member Red Top Sports on July 27 and the Quad City Cardinals on Aug. 10. All three games will begin at 7 p.m. (CT); gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets for each game will be $5 for adults and $2 for youth (children five and under will receive free admission). All proceeds from the three competitions will go directly to the Iowa baseball program for the trip to Taiwan.
Tickets are available now online at hawkeyesports.com/tickets or at Duane Banks Field on game days.
