IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa softball’s Allison Doocy has been named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. It is the sophomore’s second weekly honor of the season. She was named Co-Big Ten Pitcher of the Week on March 12.

“Doocy continues to step on the field and give our team the best opportunity to win,” said UI head coach Marla Looper. “Even though the challenge was greater this weekend, she was able to get out of jams. She’s got more confidence this year than ever and when she’s rolling the team feels confident playing behind her.”

This is the second pitcher of the week award for Doocy and the third weekly conference honor of her career. She was named the freshman of the week on April 17, 2017.

Doocy went 2-0 in the circle on April 8 and 9 to aid Iowa in its series sweep of Wisconsin, recording a 1.50 ERA and allowing 10 hit and eight walks in 14 innings pitched. The sophomore led Iowa to a 3-0 shutout win over Wisconsin on Saturday and a 5-3 victory for the sweep on Sunday. Doocy allowed just one hit in her third shutout of the season during Saturday’s performance.

Doocy racked up 18 strikeouts over the weekend, bringing her season total to 147. She ranks second in the Big Ten with a 1.36 ERA and third with 147 strikeouts.

Doocy and the Hawkeyes take the field again on Tuesday in a double header at Nebraska. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. (CT) at Bowlin Stadium in Lincoln. Both games will air live on BTN.
