IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa sophomore pitcher Allison Doocy garnered second-team All-Midwest Region honors, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Thursday. The regional award is the first of Doocy’s career.
Doocy started 30 games in 2018, racking up 205 strikeouts in 197 2/3 innings. She led the team with a 1.81 ERA, 205 strikeouts, and four shutouts. The second-team All-Big Ten selection currently ranks fourth in the conference in ERA and strikeouts.
Doocy led the Hawkeyes to a 5-1 victory over No. 5 Ohio State in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on May 10. Her 15 strikeouts tied a career high and earned her a spot on the 2018 Big Ten All-Tournament Team.
The Ankeny, Iowa, native is the first Hawkeye to earn all-region honors since Holly Hoffman was named to the third team in 2016. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams. All honorees are now eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-America teams.
The 2018 NFCA Division I All-America teams will be announced at 4 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday, May 30.
