KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The University of Iowa softball team capped off the final day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic with wins over Notre Dame and the Czech National Team on Sunday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports.
Iowa defeated Notre Dame, 2-1, on Sunday in its final game of the tournament. The Hawkeyes then played in an exhibition game against the Czech National team. Iowa defeat the Czech, 12-5, in five innings.
Iowa’s six-game winning streak is the program’s longest since 2011.

“It was a great weekend for us. The girls are playing great right now. I am really proud of our team and how they responded. We had some things to work on from the Citrus Blossom, and really executed those things well at the Citrus Classic. We did the little things well and that’s what helped us this weekend.”
“Doocy had a big weekend for us. She ended the weekend with three wins, .33 era, and 19 strikeouts. D-Ray also had great outing this weekend. One homerun, three doubles, and batting .625 on the weekend.”
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1 vs. Notre Dame
Iowa faced off against the Fighting Irish, both teams came into the game 4-0 in the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic tournament.
The Hawkeyes started off swinging in the first inning with a hit from junior Donirae Mayhew, bringing home freshman Hallie Ketcham for the game’s first run. Junior Lea Thompson added onto Iowa’s score with a RBI single to drive home senior Mallory Kilian. Iowa took a 2-0 lead after the first inning.
Notre Dame responded in the third with a run of its own and then the game turned toward the defense.
Junior Allison Doocy shut down the Notre Dame offense, throwing a complete game with six strikeouts.
Exhibition game vs. Czech National Team
Once again, Iowa was the first on the board scoring one in the first.
Iowa opened up their lead with a six-run second inning. Sophomore Aralee Bogar, Kilian, sophomore Ashley Hamliton, and junior Havyn Monteer each added an RBI, while Mayhew drove in two runs.
In the fourth, the Hawkeyes added two more runs. Bogar smacked a triple to left center. Sophomore Alex Rath, Kilian, and Cecil, all contributed hits.
Freshman Miranda Schulte started the game for Iowa in the circle and struck out three. Sophomore Sarah Lehman relieved Schulte in the fifth, only allowing one hit.
The game ended after the bottom of the fifth due to travel arrangements.
