Hawkeyes Dominate Cardinals in USF Series Finale

CLEARWATER, Fla. — Senior Mallory Kilian went 3-for-4, junior Allison Doocy struck out 10, and the University of Iowa softball team (11-8) defeated the Ball State Cardinals, 10-3, on Sunday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.

The Hawkeyes wrapped up the final day of the USF Series, going 3-2 with wins over Western Michigan, Binghamton, and Ball State and losses to Middle Tennessee and USF.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Iowa waited three innings before getting on the board in the fourth. Senior Mallory Kilian led off the inning with a double and scored on an RBI single by junior Lea Thompson.

The Hawkeyes did most of their damage in the fifth, piling on five more runs. Kilian drove in her first run of the day with an RBI single, junior DoniRae Mayhew’s sac fly brought in Iowa’s third run, freshman Sydney Owens scored another on an RBI single, Thompson earned her second RBI on a sac fly, and freshman Abby Lien tacked on the fifth run of the inning with a double.

Iowa added a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh thanks to doubles by Kilian and Lien – their second of the game.

Junior Allison Doocy earned her ninth win of the season. She struck out 10.

For the third time in the last five games, Iowa set a new season-high with 10 runs scored.
