The Hawkeyes were 9-6 overall in Session I. Five of the six losses were by a combined seven points, and one was in overtime.
The Hawkeyes are in sixth place with 41 points following the quarterfinals. Penn State leads the team race with 77 points. Minnesota (54), Ohio State (53.5), Michigan (45), and Nebraska (45) are in the top five.
QUOTING COACH TOM BRANDS
“We have four semifinalists and six on the backside starting at six o’clock. We have to be ready to go.
Points are hard to come by and we need to make them easier. We need to put our holds together and good things will happen. There is more wrestling to do.”
NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Each of Iowa’s four semifinalist have earned automatic berths to the 2019 NCAA Championships in Pittsburgh. Lugo and Stoll need two wins on the backside of the bracket to secure an automatic bid. Murin, Young, Bowman, and Wilcke are one win from earning an automatic bid.
