AMES, Iowa — The University of Iowa soccer team claimed two more victories on Sunday (March 11) in Ames, Iowa, to remain undefeated in the spring with a 4-0 record.

The Hawkeyes opened the day topping in-state foe Drake, 1-0, with a goal from senior forward Emma Tokuyama, her fourth goal of the spring. Senior goalkeeper Claire Graves earned her first shutout of the spring after posting six during the 2018 season.

Graves posted her second shutout in the nightcap, as she helped the Hawkeyes best in-state rival Iowa State, 2-0. Sophomore midfielder Hailey Rydberg tallied her third goal of the spring, while Tokuyama netted her second goal of the day and fifth of the spring.

“I thought the team’s mentality was resilient. We felt we did not have our best performance against Drake, some of that had to do with Drake and a lot had to do with us,” said Iowa head coach Dave DiIanni. “We tried hard to have an identity defensively, play higher in the line, and turn some players over; and to have that you have to have a great deal of energy and cohesiveness as a unit, that didn’t exist much in the first game.”

“I think it was great all three goals came from subs. Emma Tokuyama scored twice and Hailey Rydberg has been in a little bit of a funk so that has been great to see her score. I thought we played very well against Iowa State. We were very frustrating to play against and we limited them to very few opportunities on goal. Overall, it was a good weekend.”

Iowa will take a brief break before returning to spring play, March 30, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, against Marquette at 4:30 p.m. (CT).
