IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa seniors Hannah Drkulec and Claire Graves earned Big Ten Conference weekly women’s soccer honors, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.

Drkulec was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Graves was selected as the Big Ten Co-Goalkeeper of the Week along with Maryland’s Erin Seppi.

The duo earned the distinctions after leading the Hawkeyes to victories over No. 14 North Carolina State (1-0) and UNC Greensboro (3-0) last weekend.  Iowa posted shutouts in both road games and limited the two opponents to a combined 10 shots.

The victory was Iowa’s third highest over a ranked opponent in school history and the highest since knocking off No. 7 Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals in 2013.   The Hawkeyes’ 6-0 start is the best for the program since 2013.

Drkulec played all 90 minutes as a defender in the win over the Wolfpack and she netted her second goal of the season in the 3-0 triumph over UNCG.  Graves made four saves in the two games to tally her second and third shutouts of the season.

Graves was also named honorable mention to TopDrawerSoccer’s National Team of the Week.

Drkulec was also named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 27.  It is the third career Big Ten honor for Graves as she was named the inaugural Goalkeeper of the Week last season and the Defensive Player of the Week in Oct. 2017.

The Hawkeyes return to action Friday, hosting Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. (CT) at the Iowa Soccer Complex.  Admission is free.
