IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s tennis program set a school record when five Hawkeyes were named Division I International Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes on Monday.
Danielle Bauers, Samantha Gillas, Ashleigh Jacobs, Samantha Mannix, and Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell were recognized by the ITA for their academic prowess in 2019-20. Individual honors are awarded to student-athletes with a GPA of 3.50 or above. Gillas, Jacobs, Mannix, and van Heuvelen Treadwell were all recognized for the second straight year. Gillas earned honors in 2019 at Virginia Tech.
The previous school record was four, set in 2009.
The women’s team was also named an ITA All-Academic Team for the sixth year in a row, and the 11th time in program history. To earn the team honor, all varsity letterwinners must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above.
