Iowa Softball Adds Sophie Maras to 2021 Recruiting Class

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball team has added Sophie Maras to its 2021 recruiting class, head coach Renee Gillispie announced Monday.

Maras will transfer to Iowa from Des Moines Area Community College.

Maras joins 11 other softball signees. She is a native of Johnston, Iowa, and played high school softball for Johnston High School.

“We are excited for Sophie to join us,” said Gillispie. “She is having a solid season at DMACC and we look forward to seeing what she can do in a Hawkeye uniform.”

Maras was recently named the ICCAC Athlete of the Week and NJCAA Player of the Week on March 4. In seven games from Feb. 22-28 she batted .667 with three home runs, 12 RBIs and three stolen bases.

Maras is hitting .661 on the season with eight home runs for the Bears. She has an on base percentage of .708 and a slugging percentage of 1.268.
