Martin Named to Buster Posey Watch List

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior Austin Martin has been named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watch List, it was announced Tuesday by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.

It is the second straight year Martin has appeared on the Watch List. He is one of four Big Ten catchers and one of 69 nationally named to the initial list.

The award list will be narrowed down to semifinalists on May 20. Finalists will be announced June 7.

The Altoona, Iowa, native is hitting .357 (5-of-14) with two doubles and three runs scored through the first weekend of the 2021 season. Martin has started 70 games in his collegiate career, where he is hitting .295 with 13 doubles, two triples, and three home runs. He has driven in 33 runs and has scored 41 times.

Martin, who has 23 career multi-hit games and eight career multi-RBI games, was named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List last week.

The Hawkeyes return to action Friday, facing Ohio State at 11 a.m. (CT) at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Iowa will play both Ohio State and Nebraska twice over the weekend.
