IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa softball athletes Allison Doocy and Brylee Klosterman earned Big Ten Weekly awards, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Doocy was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week. The Ankeny, Iowa native was 2-0 on the weekend with two complete games. She allowed only one earned run and struck out 11 batters over 10 innings pitched. On Saturday she recorded her 700th career strikeout becoming the sixth Hawkeye in program history to reach that milestone. On Sunday she threw the 18th no hitter in program history, and Iowa’s first since 2015.
This is the second career pitcher of the week award for Doocy. She previously won it in 2018. The last Hawkeye to win the award was Lauren Shaw on February 17, 2020.
Klosterman was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week. The North Liberty, Iowa, native hit .615 on the weekend and drove home five runs. She slugged 1.077 and had an on base percentage of .667. She scored six runs for the Hawkeyes. Klosterman also hit her first and second career home runs.
Klosterman shares the award with Billie Andrews from Nebraska. This is the first career selection for Klosterman and the second for Iowa in as many weeks. Denali Loecker earned the honor last week.
“It is great to see Allison and Brylee recognized by the conference,” said head coach Renee Gillispie. “Both are Iowa natives who work hard and represent this team and this university in the best way. Both girls have really started to gather some momentum and I look forward to seeing what they and the rest of the team can do in these last two weekends.”
Iowa plays host to Nebraska in a four-game series May 7-9.
