Hawkeyes Down Cyclones, 2-1 

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team defeated Iowa State, 2-1, in a nine-inning contest on Sunday afternoon at the Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex.

Denali Loecker got the start and the win for the Hawkeyes, allowing only three hits and striking out three in six and one-third innings. Breanna Vasquez recorded the save in two and two thirds innings. She allowed one run on one hit and struck out five.

Iowa got on the board first in the first inning when Nia Carter drew a walk, Kalena Burns singled, and Riley Sheehy singled to bring Carter home. Carter was 1-for-2 on the day with two walks.

Brylee Klosterman hit a solo home run to right field in the third inning to put the Hawkeyes up by two. Klosterman was 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and a stolen base. Iowa State answered with a home run of its own in the bottom of the ninth.
