Hawkeyes Drop Series Finale to Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Maryland — The University of Iowa softball team was defeated by Maryland, 6-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Maryland Softball Stadium.

Senior Breanna Vasquez got the start in the circle and took the loss throwing 1.2 innings. Freshman Devyn Greer and sophomore Denali Loecker combined for 4.1 innings of relief.

Freshman Tristin Doster was 3-for-3 on the day with a home run and two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawkeyes scored first after sophomore Brylee Klosterman drew a leadoff walk, junior Nia Carter moved her over to second with a ground out, and a wild pitch moved her to third. Doster hit a blooper to centerfield to plate Klosterman from third.

Maryland (18-15, 5-1) tied the game in their half after a pair of singles and an error. The Terrapins scored three runs in the second inning with three hits (two singles and a double).

A Doster solo home run to centerfield in the fourth inning accounted for Iowa’s second run.

The Terrapins added a run in both the fourth and the fifth to add to their lead.
