Iowa Softball Announces 2023 Spring Schedule

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball program released its spring schedule on Thursday. The schedule includes 13 home games at Bob Pearl Field, starting with the Big Ten opener March 29 against Nebraska.

The Hawkeyes open the season with six nonconference tournaments on the road. The schedule includes a total of 32 nonconference contests and a 23-game Big Ten Conference schedule.

  • Iowa opens the season in Boca Raton, Florida at Florida Atlantic University
  • The Hawkeyes travel to Raleigh, North Carolina for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge where they will face NC State and Syracuse.
  • The Hawkeyes home and Big Ten opener will be on March 29 against Nebraska
  • Iowa’s home schedule includes dates with Nebraska, Northwestern, Maryland, Iowa State, Rutgers, UNI

Renee Gillispie is entering her fifth season as the head coach with Iowa. Gillispie added two new coaches to her staff this off-season with the hiring of Brian Levin and Mandy Gardner. Iowa adds 10 freshman and two transfer students to their 16 returners.

The Hawkeyes return NFCA All-Region First Team selection Nia Carter who led the team in batting last season with a .403 average. Along with Carter, Iowa also returns six others from last season who started in fifty percent or more of the games last season. The Hawkeyes return their entire pitching staff from 2022, all while adding four new arms as well.

Iowa opens their season on February 10th in Boca Raton, Florida at a tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic University. The opponents for this tournament and The Spring Games Tournament in Madeira Beach, Florida will be announced at a later date.
