Hawkeyes Head to Drake for Midweek Matchup

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team heads to Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday at 5 p.m. (CT) for a midweek matchup with Drake.

Iowa brings a 22-15 overall record into the contest while the Bulldogs are 8-22 overall.

Drake is coming off a three-game conference series with Murray State where they went 1-2. All three games went into extra innings with the Bulldogs winning the final game, 1-0, in 14 innings.

As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .240 and their pitching staff has a 4.74 ERA. They are led by Aubree Beitzinger, who is hitting .333, and Emma Dighton with 19 RBIs. In the circle, Mackenzie Hupke has thrown 71.2 innings with a 3.03 ERA.

The Hawkeyes wrapped up a five-game home stand where they hosted Nebraska and No. 20 Northwestern. They split a double header with the Huskers on Tuesday and took one of three from the Wildcats over the weekend.

Iowa has five hitters hitting over .300, led by Nia Carter with a .449 batting average. Denali Loecker leads the team with seven home runs and 31 RBIs. Breanna Vasquez is leading the way in the circle with 11 wins and a 1.96 ERA.
