IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team heads to Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday at 5 p.m. (CT) for a midweek matchup with Drake.
Iowa brings a 25-15 overall record into the contest while the Bulldogs are 11-22 overall.
Drake is coming off a three-game conference series with Bradley where they swept the Braves. The Bulldogs face in-state rival UNI in a matchup on Tuesday before facing the Hawkeyes on Wednesday.
As a team, the Bulldogs are hitting .245 and their pitching staff has a 4.46 ERA. They are led by MaKayla Rice, who is hitting .306, and Emma Dighton with 28 RBIs. In the circle, Mackenzie Hupke has thrown 84.0 innings with a 2.67 ERA.
The Hawkeyes are coming off of a three-game series sweep of Michigan State. They are coming into the match up riding a four-game win streak, all against conference opponents. Overall Iowa is hitting .295 as a team and has a staff ERA of 2.33 and has held hitters to a .232 batting average against.
Iowa has six hitters hitting .300 or better, led by Nia Carter with a .468 batting average. Denali Loecker leads the team with seven home runs and 31 RBIs. Breanna Vasquez is leading the way in the circle with 13 wins and a 1.97 ERA.
Carter was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday after hitting .667 with seven RBIs in their series at Michigan State.
