17 Hawkeyes Head to U.S. Open Championships

LAS VEGAS – Eleven University of Iowa wrestlers and six members of the Hawkeye Wrestling Club head to Las Vegas to compete at the U.S. Open Championships from April 27-30 at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa.

Twelve wrestlers — Spencer Lee (57 kg), Cullan Schriever (61 kg), Austin DeSanto (61 kg), Pat Lugo (65 kg), Jayden Eierman (70 kg), Nelson Brands (79 kg), Alex Marinelli (79 kg), Kyle Summers (86 kg) and incoming Hawkeye Ben Kueter (97 kg) — will compete in the senior division.

Lee is the No. 2 seed, Lugo and Marinelli are No. 4 seeds, DeSanto and Kueter are both seeded fifth and Brands is the No. 10 seed. The tournament serves as a qualifying event for the 2023 Senior World Team Trials Challenge tournament and Final X.

The U20 division includes Jace Rhodes (61 kg), Carter Martinson (70 kg), Cade Siebrecht (70 kg), Aiden Riggins (74 kg), Carson Martinson (74 kg), Jude Link (74 kg), Gabe Arnold (79 kg) and Bradley Hill (125 kg). The UWW/U20 Nationals are a qualifying event for the 2023 U20 World Team Trials on June 2-4 in Geneva, Ohio.
