Brecht Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Sophomore RHP Brody Brecht has been named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday. The honor is the second Big Ten weekly honor of his career and third for the Hawkeyes this season.

The Ankeny, Iowa, native threw six innings against Northwestern and allowed just one hit and one walk. He struck out nine and retired a stretch of 17 straight after allowing a leadoff hit to the Wildcats.

Brecht finished the regular season with a 3.72 ERA and a 5-2 record. He has recorded 96 strikeouts in 65.1 innings pitched. He leads the country in hits allowed per nine innings (4.27).

The No. 3 seeded Hawkeyes take on No. 6 Michigan in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Omaha, Nebraska.
