Hawkeyes Fall to UNI

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team fell to the University of Northern Iowa, 7-0, on Friday evening at the Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex in a 9-inning exhibition.

The Hawkeyes used five different arms against the Panthers. They allowed seven runs on eight hits and one error. Freshman Mya Clark got the start for Iowa and went two innings allowing just one UNI hit. The Panthers plated four runs in the fourth, two in the seventh and one in the ninth. Junior Haley Downe threw the fifth and sixth innings and allowed no hits and struck out one Panther hitter.

The Iowa bats strung together six hits across nine innings. Senior Sammy Diaz reached base twice in the game with a single in the first and a walk in the seventh. The Hawkeyes had their best scoring chance in the top of the third with runners on first and second with two outs. Senior Grace Banes singled to right field and but the runner coming home was thrown out to end the inning.

The Hawkeyes return to action tomorrow Saturday September 30 for day two of the Big Four Classic. They will face Iowa State at the Cyclone Softball Complex in Ames, Iowa. First pitch is scheduled for 2 P.M. CT and admission is free.
