Gold Team Sweeps Black and Gold Series

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Gold team defeated the Black team, 7-4, in the final game of the Black and Gold Series.

The Black team struck first, plating runs in the third and fourth innings to take the, 3-0, lead. Senior Brylee Klosterman platted two of the runs on an RBI double to left field. Sophomore Avery Jackson sent a two-out double to left center wall in the sixth and came around to score with heads-up base running on an infield single from junior Devyn Greer. The Black team finished the game with four runs on eight hits.

The Black team used four arms in the circle. Redshirt freshman Kelsey Winters and Greer did not surrender a run in a combined three innings of work. The black team gave up seven runs on six hits and struck out six gold hitters.

The Gold team plated a run in the fifth inning on a pass ball to make it 3-1. They were able to take advantage of free passes in the sixth inning as they loaded the bases with two outs. Junior Haley Downe cleared the bases on an RBI double to give the gold team the lead, 5-3. The Gold team added two insurance runs in the seventh on an RBI single off the bat of senior Sammy Diaz to make it 7-4.

The Gold team also used four arms in the circle. Freshman Andrea Jaskowiak got the start and went two innings allowing no runs on one hit and struck out one. Freshman Mya Clark closed out the game for the Gold team going three up, three down in the seventh inning.

The Hawkeyes have concluded their fall slate. Iowa opens its spring season at the NFCA Leadoff Classic on February 8 in Clearwater, Florida.
