High School — Ranked as a top 500 recruit nationally by Perfect Game… rated as the No. 4 player in Iowa by Prep Baseball Report… 2017 Prep Baseball Report Futures Game participant… 2017 WWBA Underclass All-Tournament Team… Perfect Game Preseason Underclass All-American… second-team all-state, all-district, and CIML all-conference selection after going 6-1 with a 1.91 ERA… struck out 48 over 44 innings and allowed 33 hits… went 16-3 in his high school career, finishing second in career wins and strikeouts behind Jack Dreyer… helped lead Johnston to four state tournament appearances, including a state title in 2017 and three conference titles… played for the Iowa Sticks (2016, 2017) and Perfect Game Black (2017, 2018)… also played basketball, helping team to state tournament, and golf… earned All-Academic honors in 2019… high school coach was Michael Barta.
