Heidgerken to Receive Jack North Award

Iowa City, IA – University of Iowa freshman infielder Mindy Heidgerken has been named the recipient of the Jack North Softball Award by the Iowa Girls’ High School Athletic Union. The Jack North Softball Award is given to the most outstanding high school softball player from the previous high school season.

Heidgerken was the 2003 Iowa Player of the Year as a senior as well as the 2003 Class 3A Player of the Year. She was also named the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year as a senior. Heidgerken was a member of the All-State Elite Team in 2003 as well. In her first year as a Hawkeye, Heidgerken started 31 games and led the team with 12 stolen bases.

Heidgerken will be presented the award on August 6 during the Girls’ State Softball Tournament at Harlan Rogers Field in Fort Dodge.
