IOWA CITY, IA – The Iowa men’s tennis team continued its success this season handing Toledo a 7-0 defeat today at the Recreational Building. With the victory, Iowa improves its unbeaten season to 5-0. Toledo’s record drops to 2-5.

Iowa continued its strong doubles play by picking up victories in two-of-three matches. Iowa has now won 13-of-15 matches in doubles this season. The junior tandem of Kyle Markham and Brett Taylor defeated Toledo’s Brian Rager and Josh Moran (8-4) in the No. 1 position. Junior Aaron Schaechterle and J.P. Ritchie won their match at the No. 3 position as well. The duo defeated Travis Curran and Erik Petersson (8-5). Both pairs of doubles teams remain unbeaten (5-0).

Iowa swept singles competition for the first time this season. In addition, all six matches were decided in straight sets. Junior Chaitu Malempati got things started at the No. 1 position by defeating Tony Tran in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Fellow junior Kyle Markham kept the winning going at the No. 2 position by winning in convincing fashion in straight sets over Josh Moran (6-3, 6-4). Freshman J.P. Ritchie picked up another Hawkeye win in the No. 3 spot by winning 7-6 (3), 6-3 over Chris Clark. Another Hawkeye freshman picked up a victory at the No. 4 spot.
