IOWA CITY, IA – The Iowa men’s tennis team continued its success this season handing DePaul a 7-0 defeat today at the Recreational Building. With the victory, Iowa improves to 6-1. DePaul falls to 7-6.
The Hawkeyes swept both singles and doubles play by winning all nine matches. This marks the first time all season that Iowa has done this. In doubles action they picked up the doubles point for the sixth time this season. Junior Aaron Schaechterle and freshman J.P. Ritchie continued their strong doubles play by defeating George Wang and Jack Komar (8-3) at the No. 3 spot to continue their perfect season (7-0). Junior Brett Taylor, who moved from the No. 6 position to No. 5 over the weekend, picked up his first win at the spot. Taylor defeated Jack Komar (6-1, 7-5) in straight sets to improve his record to 6-1.
“We dismantled a very good team,” said Head Coach Steve Houghton. “The guys are off to a great start and I am very pleased with the way they are playing.”
Iowa will return to action March 2 when it hosts Drake. Competition will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Recreational Building. Admission to the event is free.
