Iowa Falls to North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, FL – The University of Iowa baseball team fell to North Florida, 5-4, Tuesday in a rain-shortened game. The game was called in the bottom of the eighth due to heavy downpours in Jacksonville.

The Ospreys took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-out RBI single, then added another run in the second off a sacrifice fly.

The Hawkeyes took a 4-2 lead in the top of the third. Nate Price ripped a two-run triple, then scored on a base hit by Andy Lytle. Lytle stole his seventh base of the year, then scored when Nate Yoho reached on an error by the first baseman.

Another sacrifice fly and an RBI single for North Florida tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth. The Ospreys took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with their third sacrifice fly of the game.

The Hawkeyes were unable to get the tying run across the plate before the rains came in the bottom of the eighth and ended the game.

Austin Seward took the loss for Iowa, giving up four runs in three and 2/3 innings.

Iowa (4-5) will return to action this Friday against Illinois-Chicago in Bradenton, FL. First pitch is set for 6:30 (CT).
