LA JOLLA, CA –

The University of Iowa men’s tennis team fell to Central Florida, 5-1, Thursday afternoon at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club in California. The Hawkeyes move to 9-3 overall.

In doubles, the Hawkeyes were barely edged, with the point going to Central Florida. J.P. Ritchie and Aaron Schaechterle defeated Ener Garsoy and Sebastian Delgado, 9-8 (2). At the No. 2 spot, Chaitu Malempati and Bart von Monsjou took Rhett Rosen and Simon Jaeger into a tiebreaker, but finally lost, 9-8 (4).

Ritchie was the lone Hawkeye to win a singles match. He defeated Jaeger, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot. The No. 6 match was not finished due to rain. Brett Taylor split a pair of sets with Paul Ramy, 5-7, 6-4, before the rain.

Iowa will next compete against Dartmouth Sunday, March 20.
