Into the Lion's Den

April 1, 2005

A pair of college softball heavyweights will square off in Ann Arbor, Mich., today and Saturday when Coach Gayle Blevins nationally ranked Iowa Hawkeyes tangle with No. 1 ranked Michigan.

Don’t, however, think for a moment the visitors are entering the lion’s den timidly.

After opening its 2005 league season on the road, Iowa will return Pearl Field for Big Ten home games against Purdue and Indiana next weekend.

“Respect everyone, fear no one,” senior pitcher Lisa Birocci says in a articled written by Ryan Suchomel that appeared in today’s editions of the Iowa City Press-Citizen. “I don’t think you can approach it differently than any other team.”

Iowa, No. 21 in this week’s ESPN.com/USA Today College Softball Top 25, will carry a 27-5 record into its series with the Wolverines. The teams play single games Friday at 3 p.m. (Iowa time) and Saturday at noon. Iowa also plays a doubleheader at nationally ranked Northwestern on Sunday.

Fans of the Hawkeyes can follow the action of all games this weekend through “GameTracker” available inside the multimedia area of hawkeyesports.com. “GameTracker” is a free service of hawkeyesports.com, the official world wide web site of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
