Hawkeyes Fall To #45 Louisiana-Lafayette

Lafayette, LA – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team was defeated by #45 Louisiana-Lafayette today, 7-0. The Hawkeyes were swept in singles and had one doubles victory.

The Hawkeyes were not able to get a singles win today. In the No. 1 match, sophomore Bart van Monsjou was defeated by Evghenii Corduneanu, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. Freshman Christian Bierich struggled in the No. 2 match and lost to Robin Ley, 6-0, 6-3. Sophomore J.P. Ritchie was defeated by Amanjot Singh, 6-1, 7-5, in the No. 3 match. In the No. 4 match, senior Chaitu Malempati was defeated by Dusan Tabak, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Brett Taylor was defeated in the No. 5 match by Shaun Ellison, 6-0, 6-1. At the No. 6 spot, senior Aaron Schaechterle took the court in singles for the second time this season and was defeated by Arlen Domoney, 6-1, 7-5.

Iowa saw tough competition in doubles also. The Hawkeyes got their only victory of the day when Ritchie and Taylor teamed in the No. 1 doubles match to defeat Domoney and Corduneanu, 8-4. At the No. 2 spot, Malempati and van Monsjou were defeated by Singh and Tabak, 8-6. The No. 3 team of Schaechterle and Bierich was defeated by Ley and Ellison, 8-1.

With this loss, the Hawkeyes fall to 5-5. The Hawkeyes will return home and host Ohio State on Friday. The meet will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the University Recreational Building.
