Iowa beat Penn State, 6-1, Friday in the first of a four game series with the Nittany Lions. The win puts the Hawkeyes at .500 overall (12-12, 2-3 Big Ten).

Luke O’Loughlin started for the Hawkeyes, allowing one run on four hits in seven plus innings of work. He has a 2-3 record.

Jason White was 1-3 with one RBI, which came in the fifth when he hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Ben Geelan. Iowa scored two more runs in the fifth when Nate Price singled to right field to score Kevin Hoef and Wes Freie.

Freie was 2-3 with an RBI in the sixth when he doubled to left to score Geelan. In the eighth, Dusty Napolean and Freie scored on throwing errors.

The Hawkeyes return to action Saturday for a double header against Penn State at Beaver Field in University Park, PA. The first game begins at noon.
