IOWA CITY – Three University of Iowa baseball players were named to the 2007 ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region team. Junior centerfielder Travis Sweet and sophomore second baseman Justin Toole were named to the first team, while senior shortstop Jason White was named to the second team.
White, a Fort Collins, CO, native, was a two-time all-Big Ten selection, earning first team honors at shortstop this year and third team laurels at second base as a sophomore. As a senior, White hit .333 with 10 home runs, 38 RBIs, 11 doubles and 17 stolen bases.
Sweet, from Cedar Rapids, IA, hit .413 with eight home runs, 52 RBIs and 25 stolen bases this season. He was a first team all-Big Ten selection and ranked in the top five of the Big Ten in 10 separate offensive categories. Sweet hit .387 with five home runs and 26 RBIs in conference play.
Toole, from Council Bluffs, IA, stepped up with a big sophomore campaign in which he was second on the team with a .376 batting average. He also had 11 doubles and 34 RBIs. In Big Ten play, Toole hit .374 while knocking in 23 runs.
