IOWA CITY – Head Coach Gayle Blevins and the Iowa softball team hosted its annual youth clinic last weekend. Over 160 campers ages 7-14 attended the camp, which was held in the Bubble.

Campers received instruction from current softball student-athletes along with Blevins, Associate Head Coach Michelle Venturella and Pitching Coach Shane Bouman.

“We feel this camp is an important outreach to our community and helps us build an even stronger relationship with all who love softball,” Blevins said. “Our team did a great job. We are very proud of our young women for the time they devote to Iowa youth.”

High school coaches are reminded that room is still available at the annual coaches clinic, held Saturday, Feb. 2 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Bubble. The clinic will feature John Tschida, who is regarded among the elite coaches in NCAA softball. He has led the University of St. Thomas (MN) to two-consecutive Division III national championships and his coaching staff was named the Division III NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year in both 2004 and 2005.

Fans are also reminded that the fourth annual “Meet the Hawks” night is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. on the second level of the Paul W. Brechler Press Box inside historic Kinnick Stadium. The event is free, but fans interested in attending should RSVP to the Iowa sports marketing office at (319) 335-9431.
