The University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team competed in the 2008 NCAA Qualifier Thursday at Stanford University. Four Hawkeyes advanced to the individual event finals while the Hawkeyes, as a team, finished fifth in session two with a final score of 339.85. The top three teams from each session advance to the NCAA team finals Friday.
Senior Curtis Kleffman will compete in the all-around competition after placing sixth overall in the all-around with a score of 83.50. Freshman Ben Ketelsen will compete on floor after tying for ninth with a 14.95. Senior Jacob Becker will compete on pommel horse, after tying for ninth (14.35), and Diego Mercado-Austin will represent Iowa on rings, after scoring a 14.55 and placing 17th overall.
Stanford, Illinois, California, Oklahoma, Penn State and Michigan will compete tonight beginning at 7 p.m. for the NCAA championship. Individual event finals will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday.
