IOWA CITY – Juniors Colleen McGlaughlin and Brittany Weil have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mideast Region first team. Both McGlaughlin and Weil’s names will now appear on the ballot for NFCA all-America status.
McGlaughlin is from Morton, IL, and was selected to the first team as a utility/non-pitcher. She currently has a .339 batting average and leads the team in home runs (9), doubles (10) and RBI (33). McGlaughlin has started 25 games at both first and third base, five at shortstop and three in left field. McGlaughlin was named second team all-Big Ten and first team ESPN the Magazine academic all-District this season. She was also a second team NFCA Mideast all-Regional pick as a sophomore.
Weil is a native of Garden Grove, CA, and was selected as a pitcher. She leads the Hawkeyes in nearly every pitching statistic, including wins (26), earned run average (1.14) and strikeouts (281). Weil has tossed 26 complete games with 10 shutouts and also has two saves. She was named second team all-Big Ten this season and was also honored as a second team NFCA Mideast all-Regional selection as a sophomore.
The Hawkeyes return to action Friday when they host Missouri in first round action of NCAA Regionals at Pearl Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
