Head Coach Brent Vigness
Opening Statement
“I’m just really proud of our team and the way we battled back after yesterday’s effort. Probably the best game we played in a couple weeks for us to come back and battle like that; for Tara to pitch as well as she pitched again, limiting them to five hits and nine strikeouts. Defensively, we made play after play after play, that was great to see after the mistakes we had yesterday, but I am just very, very proud of how our team competed and bounced back.
On his team’s hitting against Iowa
“We faced two very good pitchers in the last two days and both have the ability to strike people out. We tried to make some adjustments and I thought our players did for the most part. They had less strikeouts than they typically get, but as a result we had more pop-ups. We were able to make contact, but it wasn’t solid contact.”
On pitching to Colleen McGlaughlin in the eighth-inning with first base open
“You just have to pick your poison there and with [Katie ]Brown coming up, I don’t think I really liked that situation either.”
On competing in this regional
“The so called experts said this was one of the toughest regionals and I don’t know if it’s the toughest, but it’s certainly the most balanced in my opinion. I think on any given day, we proved that we were right there and it’s very disappointing to lose the two games that we did.”

On the offensive struggles this weekend
“It is frustrating. I think we handled ourselves pretty well considering we weren’t maybe hitting as well as we wanted to. Even after all is said and done, we won and lost as a team and we made some great plays. We had great pitching and runs came when we needed them, except for these past two games.”
Tara Oltman
On losing two close games
“It’s always tough to lose close games and we were really in both games and we’re really disappointed in the outcome, but again today we played a lot better and had some great plays just throughout today alone. There were great plays followed by a disappointing loss.”
