Iowa Concludes Competition At USTA Invite

FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY –

The Iowa women’s tennis team concluded their third and final day of competition in the USTA Invitational at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Monday. The Hawkeyes improved upon their 12-13 overall record from Saturday and Sunday, to go 1-1 in doubles competition and 2-4 in singles competition, bringing their tournament record to 15-18 overall.

In doubles competition, the duo of Jennifer Barnes and Alexis Dorr saw their first lost against Texas A&M’s Christine Amo and Sherri Olivier (8-5) after going undefeated Saturday and Sunday. Kelcie Klockenga and Ally Majercik earned their first doubles win of the tournament, going 8-6 against Carling Donovan and Sydney Murray of Columbia.

In singles action, Klockenga went undefeated for the second day in a row. Klockenga received the win after defeating Katherine Arlak of Rutgers 6-3, 7-6, improving her record to 4-1 for the competition. Poggensee-Wei was also victorious for the Hawkeyes in singles competition Monday. She defeated Georgie Smyser of Dartmouth 6-3, 6-1 in a solid win to round out her tournament play.

Iowa will return to competition for the ITA Midwest Regionals on October 23 in East Lansing, MI.
