DELAND, FL – The University of Iowa softball team overcame a three-run deficit to knock off Long Island, 6-3, Tuesday in the first game of the Stetson Hatter Roundup. Timely hitting by senior Colleen McGlaughlin and a solid relief performance by junior Amanda Zust led the Hawkeyes to victory.

Long Island jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first two innings, but Iowa stormed back with a five-run fifth inning to regain the lead. Sophomore Jenny Schuelke drove in Iowa’s fifth run of the frame with a fielder’s choice RBI, plating sophomore Chelsey Carmody.

Iowa added a late run in the top of the seventh for the final score. Carmody singled and moved to second on a Katie Brown sacrifice bunt. Carmody scored on an RBI single to left by Schuelke.
