IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa softball team was one of 64 teams selected for the NCAA Division I Softball Tournament late Sunday night. The Hawkeyes will travel to Atlanta, GA, for NCAA Regional play. Other teams in Iowa’s region include No. 14 national seed and host-school Georgia Tech, Auburn and Boston University.
The Hawkeyes will open NCAA Regional action Friday, May 15 at 4 p.m. (CT) against Auburn. The Tigers finished the 2009 regular season with a 29-27 overall record, including a 9-19 mark in Southeastern Conference action. Georgia Tech and Boston will face off Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
“We are thrilled to have a spot in the NCAA Tournament,” Head Coach Gayle Blevins said. “This is such a great time of year, and our entire team is excited for the postseason. We have traveled a lot this season, so we are ready to hit the road for another weekend. We are really looking forward to this opportunity.”
