WAYZATA, MN – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is in seventh place after day one at the Golden Gopher Invitational. The Hawkeyes fired rounds of 295 and 294 for a two round total of 589 (+13). Competition was held at the Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, MN. Southern Methodist University is leading the 12-team field with a score of 575 (-1).
The Hawkeyes were led by junior Vince India who is tied for 12th after carding a two round total of 145 (+1). India fired seven birdies on the day, including three birdies on the back nine of both rounds. Brad George shot both rounds at two-over par and holds a total score of 148. The sophomore executed five birdies, including four in his opening round, and is tied for 27th.
Sophomore Barrett Kelpin and junior Brad Hopfinger are both tied at 35th after carding two round totals of 149 (+5). Hopfinger shot four birdies in his second round, five total, and fired an ace on the par five, hole 16 during his first round. Additionally, freshman Chris Brant shot a 151 (+7) and is tied for 43rd. Brant carded three birdies and an eagle during Sunday’s rounds.
