Hawkeyes Lose To Stanford In Overtime

IOWA CITY, IA – – The 17th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team lost to Stanford in overtime Sunday, 3-2, at Grant Field. The Hawkeyes fall to 1-5 on the season with the loss.

Stanford struck first in the 29th minute as Xanthe Travlos deflected in a goal to give the Cardinal a 1-0 advantage. Camille Gandhi was credited with the assist.

Moments later, senior Jess Werley tied the match with her third goal of the season. Junior Sarah Pergine was credited with the assist. The first half would end tied 1-1.

At the 57:34 mark, Kelsey Lloyd chipped in a goal over Hawkeye goalkeeper Tori Garifo to give the Cardinal a 2-1 advantage. With one minute remaining in regulation, Pergine scored to tie the match at two and send it into overtime.

In the first minute of overtime, Jaimee Erickson scored off a deflection to give Stanford a 3-2 victory.

The Hawkeyes face St. Louis Saturday at Grant Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. Admission is free.
