Hawkeyes Dominate Ohio State, 6-1

COLUMBUS, OH – – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team won at No. 25 Ohio State Sunday, 6-1. The 26th-ranked Hawkeyes move to 13-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play with the win at the Stickney Tennis Center. Iowa has won three straight matches and eight of its last nine overall.

The Hawkeyes won two of three doubles match to claim the point. Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Alexis Dorr defeated Fidan Manashirova and Gabby Steele, 8-4, at the No. 3 spot. Sonja Molnar and Merel Beelen, ranked 15th nationally, then won at the No. 1 position to clinch the doubles point. The duo defeated Kelsey Haviland and Cami Hubbs, 8-4.

Iowa dominated singles play, claiming five of six matches. Molnar, ranked 55th nationally, downed No. 66 Kirsten Flower 7-6, 1-6, 6-4, at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 spot, Poggensee-Wei defeated Paloma Escobedo 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. Beelen won at the No. 3 spot. The senior downed Haviland 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. Kelcie Klockenga defeated Manashirova at No. 5 singles. The senior won 6-1, 6-4. Dorr also claimed a victory at the No. 6 spot. She defeated Hubbs 6-3, 6-2.

The Black and Gold return to action at home next Saturday against Illinois. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. The Hawkeyes will then host Indiana Sunday at 11 a.m. Both matches will be held at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. Admission is free.
