Hawkeyes Hold Lead After Day One

DURHAM, NC – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is in first place after two rounds of the Rod Myers Invitational, hosted by Duke University. The Hawkeyes, ranked 19th in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches’ poll, recorded rounds of 277-286 for a 36-hole total of 563 (-13).

Iowa stands six strokes ahead of North Carolina State and nine shots ahead of North Carolina-Charlotte in the 12 team field that includes six teams currently ranked in the top 30 nationally.

Individually, Iowa senior Brad Hopfinger shot a four-under par total of 140 (71-69), just one stroke behind the co-leaders. Three Hawkeye golfers, Vince India (76-68), Chris Brant (69-75) and Brad George (70-74), are tied for 16th after recording even par scores of 144. Hawkeye Barrett Kelpin shot 145 (67-78) and is tied for 23rd.

The tournament will conclude with the final 18 holes being played Monday at the Duke University Golf Club.
