Hawkeyes to Host Annual Spring Tournament Saturday

April 15, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa field hockey team will host its annual spring tournament Saturday featuring the current Hawkeye squad and an alumni team. Northwestern will also compete in the tournament. Play is scheduled to begin at noon at Grant Field.

The alumni team, `Old Gold’, will feature former Hawkeyes, including regional All-American and all-Big Ten honoree Lissa Munley.

“Being an alumnus of Iowa is an honor,” said Munley. “While at the University, I had opportunities and experiences that I would have never been a part of at any other place. Iowa City, the people, and my experience there will always hold a special place in my heart. It is a place that has built me and will continue to be the cornerstone of the person I am for the rest of my life. I appreciate Iowa and all it offers.

“The game on Saturday will be so much fun,” added the former Hawkeye goalkeeper. “I am looking forward to getting on the field and playing a competitive game. It has been about a year since the last alumni game when we were able to see one another. Most of us are spread across the United States and it has become our tradition to meet in Iowa City for a great time. I can’t wait to see everyone.”

Caroline Blaum, Kadi Sickel, Lissa Munley, Lindsey Duffy, Katie Naughton, Tricia Dean, Margot McMahon, Chelsea Miller, Sarah Pergine, assistant coach Caroline Nichols and associate head coach Lisa Cellucci will be joining Munley on the alumni team.

The format includes 35-minute games with a running clock. Teams will receive three points for a win, one point for a tie, and zero points for a loss.

Iowa is scheduled to compete at noon, 12:45 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Iowa alumni squad is scheduled to play at noon, 1:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
