OKLAHOMA CITY — University of Iowa assistant softball coach and former Hawkeye Stacy May-Johnson helped the USA Softball Team to the gold medal at the 2012 World Cup of Softball presented by Lumber Liquidators.
May-Johnson started 5-of-6 games for Team USA, posting a .357 (5-of-14) batting average with three runs, two RBIs and two walks. Her best game came in a 9-0 victory over Canada, where she went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
The Americans posted a perfect 6-0 record during the competition, and they outscored their opponents, 41-3, in the five day event.
Team USA opened World Cup play with an 8-0, five inning victory over Puerto Rico on June 28 before downing Australia, 3-1, on June 29. The Americans defeated the Netherlands, 2-1, and Canada, 9-0, on June 30. The squad closed out the tournament with a 9-0 win over Brazil and a 3-0 victory over Australia in the championship game.
Team USA returns to action at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship on July 4-9 in Surrey, B.C., Canada.
