TULSA, Okla. — The University of Iowa women’s tennis team was undefeated through two rounds of doubles competition today at the ITA Regionals today.
“This was our best day of doubles this fall,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “Both teams were really able to put it together. Another great day for McCulloch in singles and more opportunities for us tomorrow.”
Shelby Talcott and Morven McCulloch defeated Ffion Davies and Tracy Hans-Lay of South Dakota State University, 8-6, and Yang Pang and Kim Surin of Arkansas, 8-3. Ruth Seaborne and Katie Zordani received a buy before topping Maggy Lehmicke and Izabella Zgierska of Nebraska, 8-4.
Both Hawkeye teams confirmed their spots in the third round of the Main Draw Doubles. The third and fourth rounds will be played Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
McCulloch also went 2-0 in her singles matches Friday. She defeated Veronika Blaskova of Wichita State, 6-4, 6-1. She also topped Steff Hollis of St. Louis University. McCulloch will face last year’s champion Sam Vickers of Tulsa University in the third round of the Singles Main Draw Saturday at 1 p.m. Seaborne, Talcott and Zordani each won their opening singles match before falling in the second round.
