Hawkeyes Wrap Up Competition at ITA Regionals

Oct. 21, 2012

TULSA, Okla.— The University of Iowa women’s tennis team wrapped up competition at the ITA Regionals this weekend. Sophomore Morven McCulloch led the Hawkeyes, advancing as far as the round of sixteen in the Singles Main Draw.

“Great tournament for Morven this weekend,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “To make it through to the quarters and into the round of sixteen speaks volumes for the work she’s put in. She struggled with putting together back-to-back high level matches and had a breakthrough this weekend. Vickers owned this tournament last year and was just a little bit too good today. I’m pleased with how we finished the fall, and we’ll use it as a springboard going into the offseason and spring.”

Katie Zordani and Shelby Talcott picked up consolation victories Saturday. Zordani topped Madison Rhyner of Missouri University, 6-2, 6-4. Talcott beat Monica Pezzotti of Kansas University, 6-0, 6-1. She also defeated Aria Lambert of Minnesota, 7-6, 6-1.

Talcott and McCulloch topped Rebol and Eggleson of Drake University, 8-4, before falling to Ritchie and Brhane of Kansas State University in the semifinals, 8-1.
