WINTER CLINC REGISTRATION FORM
IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball program has announced its 2014 Winter Clinics dates. Each clinic will take place in Iowa’s Kenyon Practice Facility on campus in January.
The Little Hawks clinic session, for participants in kindergarten through third grade, will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15. Young campers will learn the basic fundamentals of the game during the clinic. The cost is $25.
The Hawkeyes will have an Advanced Pitcher/Catcher session for individuals in grades eight through 12 on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pitchers in attendance will learn grips and principles of pitches including a drop, rise, and curve, and must provide their own catcher. Catchers will receive position specific instruction including receiving, blocking, and throw downs. The cost of this session is $85.
An Advanced All-Skills clinic for participants in grades eight through 12 will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The $100 session will cover the advanced fundamentals of hitting and slapping, base running, short game, and position specific defense. Pitching will not be covered in this session, but catchers will be included in the position specific training.
Participants in grades four through seven can partake in the Intermediate Pitcher/Catcher session on Sunday, Jan. 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Pitchers will learn the fundamentals of pitching and work on throwing a fastball and change-up, while catchers will learn the basics of receiving, blocking, and throw downs. Pitchers wishing to attend must provide their own catcher. The cost of this session is $60.
An Intermediate All-Skills session is also available for individuals in grades four through seven on Sunday, Jan. 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Those in attendance will learn the fundamentals of defense and receive a limited amount of position work. The basics of hitting, base running, and short game will also be covered. Pitching is not included, but catchers will receive basic position specific instruction. This session costs $85.
There is a $30 discount for participants who register for the Advanced Pitcher/Catcher camp and the Advanced All-Skills camp. Those who register for the Intermediate Pitcher/Catcher camp and the Intermediate All-Skills camp will also receive a $30 off.
A registration form is available online at iowasoftballcamps.com and can be submitted online or through the mail. All participants will receive a complimentary camp t-shirt. A release form must be signed and turned in for campers to participate in any session of the clinic.
Registration is due by Jan. 6 at 11:59 p.m. Any forms received after the deadline, including walk ups, will incur a fee of $10 and the participant will not receive a camp t-shirt.
